Research / Publications: Research focuses on the historical and cultural construction of dancing bodies during modernity and postmodernity, particularly in popular dance contexts, both live and on screen. Doctoral research investigated the body politics of the cancan at selected moments in its history from its emergence in the late 1820s to Baz Luhrmann’s film Moulin Rouge! Research has been published in the journal Research in Dance Education and presented at conferences in the USA, France, South Korea and the UK.

Nanette Kincaid is a professional dancer who has performed with many companies and artists including Arc Dance Company, Retina, Bock and Vincenzi and Matthew Bourne’s Adventures in Motion Pictures. Trained at Laban, the London School of Contemporary Dance and the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase, she is an experienced teacher. She has taught for many colleges, companies and organisations including London Contemporary Dance School, Laban, Adventures in Motion Pictures, Royal Opera House, Dance Theatre of Ireland, Coisceim, The Place, Association of Professional Dancers in Ireland, Dance Northern Ireland and many others.
Cai Tomos, BA, Contemporary Technique and Choreography
Cai Tomos studied dance at Coventry University. He gained an honours degree (2:1) and subsequently joined Earthfall Physical Theatre as a performer. Cai has worked as a choreographer/assistant director with Earthfall physical theatre on various projects from 2001 to 2008. During this time he was also the Dance co-ordinator for the Full Time Preliminary Dance training Course at Rubicon Dance in Cardiff. Cai is co founder of the Uru-Wales Project, a regular collaborative project with Director Martin Inthamossou that takes place in Montevideo, South America. He has just completed his Diploma in Therapeutic application of the Arts at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in education.
Caroline Waters, Improvisation
Caroline is an International Dance/Theatre Practitioner dedicated to the craft of Improvisation in Performance and the study of Contact Improvisation. Mainly drawing from C I and New Dance practices, Caroline teaches, performs and directs in various situations ranging from the performic to the therapeutic, working with both professionals and non-professionals. The work often focuses on collaboration and working with other Art forms, which includes experience of working with a range of non-theatre spaces as a focus for performance.
Caroline has a passion for festival organisation and has been respnsible for many International Improvisation events, including 4 European C I Teachers Exchanges in the UK, Hungary and Russia, as well as being an Artistic Director of Contact Moscow for the past 5 years. She has performed at many International Improvisation Festivals across Europe and America and has recently completed 2 tours of Siberia. Amongst all the travelling Caroline was an Associate Lecturer at Dartington College of Arts UK for 11 years. Most recently has been an inteisive teacher at the Israeli Contact Festival 2009. Caroline continues to develop her own body of work internationally as a freelance improviser in performance, as a dancer, teacher/director and musician.
